Project-Oriented Workflow

We value freedom of choice as an important good but giving our long-term experience freedom of choice comes to an end when we talk about the mandatory working environment for this course.

Analysis of massive Remote Sensing data

gdalcubes and STAC - new dimensions in time series and change detection analysis

Sentinel-2 is currently the most important platform for Earth observation in all areas, but especially for climate change, land use and ecological issues at all levels, from the upper micro level to the global level. However it data pre-, processing and post processing is challenging. gdalcubes following the STAC protocol and COG are extremly promising for massive data analysis task

Getting startet with LiDAR

Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) observations are point clouds representing the returns of laser pulses reflected from objects, e.g. a tree canopy. Processing LiDAR (or optical point cloud) data generally requires more computational resources than 2D optical observations.

Forest Information from LiDAR data

How to get started? For this first example we take a typical situation: - we have no idea about the software and possible solutions - we have no idea about LiDAR data processing and analysis - we just google something like lidR package tutorial Among the top ten is The lidR package book . So let’s follow the white rabbit… Creating a Canopy Height Model (CHM) reloaded After successful application of the tutorial we will transfer it into a suitable script for our workflow.

About GI-Modules

GI Modules is a blog-based collection of learning content in the broad field of geoinformatics. The blogs are sorted by categories and tags. Under the categories, related content is grouped together. Within the content pages, you can navigate to related articles via the tags.

Academic writing made easy

The blogdown package provides a fully functional blogging tool from setting up websites to editing and discussing content. It is abel to handle both markdown and R markdown content. The chosen hugo-theme-minima-gisma theme is a slightly adapted version of the hugo-theme-minima.It provides basic functionality and an incredible straightforward design.

About Learning environment

We offer weekly input with a new course unit. After a brief input, the exercises are presented, which should be worked on to successfully complete the assignments.

About Assignments

The exercises and assignments are submitted via markdown/rmarkdown files and PDF documents created from them in a private Github repository.
